I've been watching you waltz all night DianeFirst, I have to say that I'm really happy that the writers' strike is over, and that an agreement was reached in Hollywood.
Nobody's found a way behind your defenses
They never notice the zap gun in your hand
Until you're pointing it and stunning their senses
All night long, all night long
You'll shoot 'em down because you're waiting for somebody good to come on
But you'll be sleeping with the television on
You say you're looking for someone solid here
You can't be bothered with those `just for the night' boys
Tonight unless you take some kind of chances dear
Tomorrow morning you'll wake up with the white noise
All night long, all night long
You're only standing there 'cause somebody once did somebody wrong
But you'll be sleeping with the television on
~ "Sleeping With The Television On" by Billy Joel
What I'm NOT happy about is that there are a number of shows that I was really enjoying that will not be back on the air until the Fall because of the writers' strike. Instead, we have been getting a whole lot of... well... crap. It may not be stuff that everyone else considers crap, but it is stuff that I just don't enjoy watching.
I don't care who dances with who and how well they can do it. I don't care who can outsmart who to get the immunity idol (don't even get me started as to why I know this). I don't care who some panel of hacks thinks can be successful in the realm of pop music (or whatever other kind of music). I don't care who the next emaciated supermodel is going to be walking down the catwalk wearing ridiculous outfits that no regular Jill/Joe will ever be wearing. (Sorry to J if you're reading this, but does it have to be on tv?)
ENOUGH ALREADY!!!
Give me my fiction. Give me my intelligently written dramas. Give me my witty, snarky, sarcastic, smart comedies.
I want my television shows back, damnit.
*Title of a Spoon album, but it was far too fitting to not use it.
